A lemur's tail has 13 or so black-and-white rings. It is a flag and a balancing pole.

Phoenicopterus roseus
Chicks hatch gray. The pink comes later, with the shrimp.
Shrimp and algae. The pink color comes from their food. They eat their outfit.
